​​Born and raised in Kansas City, Quinton Lucas grew up in the urban core where he moved often and experienced homelessness. Through hard work and with the support of his family and community, he earned academic scholarships to attend Washington University and Cornell Law School.

In 2019, Lucas was elected as the 55th Mayor of Kansas City with the support of a broad coalition and a commitment to expand affordable housing, fix roads, and create more opportunities for all Kansas Citians.

Before being elected Mayor, Lucas joined the University of Kansas faculty as one of the youngest tenured law professors in the country. Lucas continues to teach law classes and share his passion for teaching while serving the people of Kansas City.

As Mayor, Lucas has followed through on his campaign promises while leading the City through the fallout of the pandemic. He has passed first in the nation fare-free public transportation, a $50 million investment in affordable housing, and repaved a record number of roads.

In 2021, Lucas and his wife Katherine welcomed their first child Bennett. As a father, Lucas recognizes the importance of expanding opportunities for Kansas City’s youth and ensuring that all are supported.

As a lifelong Kansas Citian, Mayor Lucas believes that our City’s best days have yet to come. He will continue to be a strong voice for all, working to make our city safe and prosperous for the next generation.
